Take a fantastic ferry to Rottnest Island from Fremantle

Hougoumont Hotel to B Shed Ferry Terminal at Victoria Quay 1 km (driving for 3 minutes)

Perth CBD to B Shed Ferry Terminal at Victoria Quay 23 km (driving for 27 minutes)

HIGHLIGHTS:

We doubt you’ll regret taking a day trip to Rottnest Island (nicknamed “Rotto” by locals) for a snorkelling tour. There’s nothing like exploring the turquoise bays to appreciate the colourful marine life that call this underwater playground home.

As part of the Rottnest Express tour, a ferry will pick you up from Fremantle Victoria Quay in the morning and take you back later that day.

You can explore Rotto Island independently when you arrive, before boarding the cruising vessel for your afternoon snorkel tour. Expect to come face to face with coral fish, lobsters, octopus, eagle rays, moon wrasse and other sea creatures.

The day includes:

  • Buffet lunch at Karma Rottnest (depending on the package you choose)
  • Round-trip ferry transfers
  • 90 minute underwater snorkel tour
  • Snorkel equipment and wetsuit to use during the session
  • Admission fee to Rottnest Island

After the cruise, you’ll have time to spend on the beach or visit local shops, before catching the ferry back to Fremantle.

Please note that children under eight aren’t permitted on this particular tour, which lasts for six to eight hours.

If you prefer to snorkel without a tour, you can catch a ferry, hire snorkel gear and go at your own pace. This guide highlights the best snorkelling spots, depending on your experience level.

Alternatively, you can hire a bike, hop on the Island Explorer bus, go fishing or try some water sports.

MEALS:

If you’re doing the snorkelling tour, your ferry returns to Fremantle in the evening, so why not walk over to Bread in Common for dinner?

This popular restaurant features an open kitchen that sits alongside diners in the laid back environment. Don’t give up the chance to sample their artisan, wood fired bread, which can be enjoyed with the seasonal farm to menu dishes. There are many gluten free and vegan options too.

ACCOMMODATION:

Enjoy another night at the Hougoumont Hotel, where you’ve been staying in Fremantle.
